Sun and flower-covered meadows
Summer in Val Gardena is a riot of colours and scents. The unmistakable outlines of the Sassolungo and Sella mountains, symbols of our valley, tower above the dense forests against a deep blue sky. Ortisei is the ideal starting point for countless tours on foot or by car, situated as it is right in the heart of the Dolomites, a short distance from the mountain passes over which the ‘Giro d’Italia’ snakes its way and from the many historically- and culturally-interesting towns of South Tyrol. Whoever wants to keep fit and do sports while on holiday here is spoilt for choice: Val Gardena offers every type of sport, from mountaineering to mountain-biking, from golf to horse-riding and from swimming to tennis. And should the sun disappear behind the clouds (and from time to time that can also happen here!), Ortisei has a large range of beautiful shops which make shopping particularly pleasurable and the village also has a centuries’-old tradition of wood-carving, with its wooden figurines for Christmas cribs and its wooden toys.
